Rock Pring is Professor of Law at the University of Denver College of Law, where he teaches Constitutional Law, Environmental Law, International Environmental Law, International Water Law, and (Government) Administrative Law, and serves as Faculty Supervisor of the Environmental/Natural Resources Law Internship Program and the Water Law Review. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Environmental Science and Engineering Graduate Program at the Colorado School of Mines.
He has been a practicing lawyer for over 30 years - in a national law firm representing business clients and state and local government, in public service as Chief of Environmental Litigation for the State of Ohio, and in public interest practice with a leading US NGO, Environmental Defense.
Professor Pring is an authority on natural resources and environmental issues nationally and internationally - as an attorney in major litigation and regulatory reform on government minerals, environment, and preservation programs, co-author of the treatise International Environmental Law for the 21st Century and other publications and reports, and a presenter at universities, conferences, and training courses in the US and abroad.
He is also an authority on constitutional and human rights issues - as co-author of SLAPPs: Getting Sued for Speaking Out, the book that named and drew national attention to the problem of "Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation& (lawsuits to chill citizens' communications to government), a Director of the SLAPPs Resource Center, and a consultant and expert witness on constitutional issues.
He has served as Commissioner (and Chair) of the State of Colorado Hazardous Waste Commission and on other government planning and policy bodies. He is currently US representative to the Academic Advisory Group of the International Bar Association Section on Energy and Resources Law, Fellow of the University of Denver Environment Institute, Advisor to the University of Denver International Natural Resources & Environmental Law Graduate Program, Faculty for the US Government's Western Management Development Center, and President and Co-Founder of the Clear Creek Land Conservancy.
When not teaching or writing, Professor Pring enjoys travel, theater, horseback riding, scuba diving, fly fishing, and hiking.
